The Flying Dutchman

Madurodam opened a new flight simulator attraction called The Flying Dutchman. Based on the golden age of flight and promoting the dutch airline KLM the attraction is located inside a real Dakota DC-3 airplane which belonged to the KLM fleet.

For this project we had the opportunity to research lots of old memorabilia and graphics from KLM from that era. The queue area was themed like an airport terminal and runway from the 50s. With that design I created an identity for the airport just like a real airport would have. The colors and typography are inspired on 50s airports, with references to Schiphol from that time. To strengthen the experience , the runway area has a more sober and functional look as this part wouldn’t be visible to “passengers” and would only be important for “airport personnel”.
